Speak up now to support SB32 ~ aka Roxy’s Law ~ and end
cruel trapping and poisoning on public lands

The New Mexico State Legislature is currently considering SB32, a bill that would ban traps and poisons on New Mexico’s public lands—and we need your help to get it passed!

SB32 would protect wildlife, humans, and companion animals from leghold traps, body-crushing Conibear traps, neck snares and M-44 sodium cyanide bombs, and save countless animals from suffering excruciating pain and death.

Science does not support trapping (or poisoning) as a legitimate means of wildlife management. Twelve Project Coyote Science Advisory Board members and staff, all leading wildlife scientists, have drafted and signed a letter in support of Roxy’s Law that sets forth the relevant science and value-based arguments against trapping.

In a timely twist of fate, an anonymous good Samaritan has shared with Project Coyote this gut-wrenching video showing the first-hand experience of encountering and rescuing a coyote ensnared in a leghold trap. (Warning: video contains graphic imagery.) During New Mexico’s current trapping season, the same traumatic experience suffered by both the coyote and the witness in this video has occurred at least nine times to people hiking on New Mexico’s public lands. In eight of these cases, the hikers’ own dogs were ensnared. In another incident, hikers encountered a lone dog suffering in a trap. No one should have to experience what these people and the good Samaritan who provided our video experienced. No one should have to carry a backpack full of tools to rescue their companion animal—or any animal—from the agony of a trap to enjoy our public lands.

Here’s how you can help end cruel trapping & poisoning!

Hello [House Representative’s Name],

I am a New Mexico resident and I am calling to urge you to support Roxy’s Law (SB 32) to ban traps, snares and poisons on our state’s public lands.

I want to safely recreate on our public lands with my friends and family, including children and companion animals that are most vulnerable to traps and M-44 sodium cyanide bombs.

Wildlife belongs to all citizens and the majority of New Mexicans do not support trapping and poisoning. I respectfully urge you to support Roxy’s Law.

Thank you,

[Your Name]
